Barbra Streisand was chic for one day in 1968. Allow me to explain…
It’s a little known, or rather, vastly forgotten, fact that in 1968, the Academy Awards decided to be especially cunty to it’s hollywood hopefuls when it granted a tie for Best Actress. Katharine Hepburn for The Lion In Winter (chic) and Barbra Streisand for Funny Girl (not chic.)
However, Katharine must’ve known some shady shit was gonna go down, because that psycho didn’t even show up. So, Barbs was left to accept her award in all of her sheer glory. I must say, this look is EVERYTHING to me right now. Sometimes a concept is so concepty that it just works. I’ve been staring at it for the past 12 minutes and I still can’t get over it. I’ve already emailed everyone I know who knows Marc Jacobs to get some sort of re-creation moment going before spring is gone. Sheer and sequins for days. Heaven.
Watch her rude acceptance speech here. She also almost trips on her bell bottoms, pffft. Dying for this.
